Post-Transcriptional Gene Regulation in Hematopoietic Development and Cancer

The control of hematopoietic differentiation and its dysregulation in leukemia is complex- and many newly discovered elements of gene expression regulation play important roles. We have recently made some important inroads into microRNA- and long non-coding RNA- dependent regulation of B-cell differentiation and leukemogenesis. Additionally, our research into post-transcriptional gene regulation recently became focused on RNA-binding proteins, which appear to be extremely important regulators of this unique mode of gene regulation. Our research points to critical roles played by non-traditional modes of gene regulation in hematopoiesis and cancer. It's our goal to understand these roles and to determine how we can leverage these novel mechanisms in the diagnosis and treatment of human diseases.
